Research in open source cuts across technology, business, and the social sciences.  This panel discussion addresses the state of the art in open source research, with panelists identifying some of the most significant projects and issues.

Important technology issues include quality and security of open source software, as well as project retrospectives from mining open source repositories. Business topics include the growth of commercial open source businesses and their  business models.
Collaboration of globally distributed project teams, as well as mechanisms for project sustainability, are also important research topics that draw upon the social sciences. Panelists will describe some of the important research projects and identify key issues for ongoing research. Targeted audience: All, but particularly researchers in industry and academia, along with private and public funding organizations.
