1 - MAIN CONFERENCE - Open Cloud - Empowering the digital future

Open Cloud - Empowering the digital future

Cloud Computing is the 'Next Big Thing' in IT. If Open Source has enabled giants like Google and Amazon to emerge, interoperability is a key battlefield for many new entrants. What does the range of possible options look like? What roles might interoperability and/or Open Source play? Shape the future of IT!

September 30, 2010, from 02:00 PM to 04:00 PM - Register >

Setting the scene on day one with a series of presentations that lead the way towards a think-tank on the second day, the Open Cloud track is meant to provide the audience and speakers with a clear view of the key options and questions when it comes to operating in and with the current set of Cloud offerings and discussing the current state of their interoperability and compatibility, as concerning  the Open Source world.

Bringing together the key players in  Cloud computing, this two-day track is not a traditional conference about Cloud technologies. Instead it is intended to question and put forward solutions around interoperability, compatibility and interference between them at the level of infrastructures, platforms and software. In order to do so, this track will spread over two days:

  • on 30 September, we will start by questioning a panel of speakers on their opinions about what 'freedom' means to Cloud computing. This will be followed by a second panel discussion, where we will ask speakers to tell us about their strategy for the Cloud.

  • on 1 October, we will bring speakers into a think-tank environment, where each will have to physically draw up a diagram of their Cloud offerings while describing it, detailing which parts are Open Sourced and which are not, and describing what are their interoperability points. This will open up to a discussion with the public on how to benefit from the various offerings and improve the current state of interoperability.

Are APIs, images and storage formats, languages, export tools and messaging formats the key to the Open Cloud? We should certainly have a better idea of this at the end of these two days.
